BACKTOSCHOOL.org.za is a national campaign initiated by ZA Creative & Projects (PTY) Ltd. to directly address the critical shortage of educational resources plaguing South African ECD centres, primary, and secondary schools. Recognising that quality education is foundational for individual and national progress (aligned with SDG 4), this initiative calls upon corporate organisations and individuals to donate both used and new learning resources.

The campaign aims to bridge the resource gap, empower educators, and create more inclusive and equitable learning environments, ultimately fostering lifelong learning opportunities for all South African children. By facilitating the collection and distribution of essential educational materials, BACKTOSCHOOL.org.za seeks to unlock the potential within every learner and contribute to a more educated, prosperous, and just South Africa.

Vision

A South Africa where every learner, regardless of their socio-economic background or geographical location, has access to the necessary resources to unlock their full potential and thrive in a stimulating and equitable learning environment.

Mission

To mobilise corporate organisations and individuals across South Africa to donate used and new quality learning resources, and to efficiently distribute these resources to under-resourced ECD centres, primary, and secondary schools, thereby enhancing the learning experience, supporting educators, and fostering a culture of lifelong learning for all.

Objectives

  1. Increase the availability of essential learning resources: To collect and distribute a significant and measurable quantity of relevant used and new educational resources (e.g., stationery, textbooks, workbooks, educational games, arts and crafts supplies, digital learning tools where feasible) to identified under-resourced schools and ECD centres nationwide within the first 12 months of the campaign.
  2. Foster corporate and individual social responsibility: To cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility within corporate South Africa and among individual citizens, encouraging consistent and meaningful contributions of educational resources to support learning institutions.
  3. Enhance the quality of the learning environment: To contribute to the creation of more engaging, effective, and stimulating learning environments in beneficiary schools and ECD centres by providing resources that facilitate diverse teaching methodologies and cater to different learning styles.
  4. Empower educators with necessary tools: To provide educators in under-resourced institutions with the tools and materials they need to deliver quality education, thereby reducing the burden of resource scarcity and allowing them to focus on effective teaching and learner development.
  5. Raise national awareness about educational resource inequality: To conduct impactful awareness campaigns that highlight the challenges faced by under-resourced learning centres and the importance of community involvement in addressing these inequalities.
  6. Establish efficient and transparent distribution mechanisms: To develop and implement robust logistical processes for the collection, sorting, and distribution of donated resources, ensuring transparency and accountability to donors and beneficiaries.
  7. Build sustainable partnerships: To forge long-term partnerships with corporate organisations, NGOs, community-based organisations, and educational stakeholders to ensure the ongoing success and expansion of the resource support initiative.
  8. Measure and evaluate impact: To establish clear metrics and implement monitoring and evaluation processes to assess the impact of the campaign on beneficiary schools and learners, and to continuously improve the effectiveness of resource distribution.

Significant and persistent learning deficits, exacerbated by socioeconomic inequalities and unequal access to learning support during disruptions.
